In an era of rapid technological advancements and growing water-related challenges, harnessing new technologies and innovative approaches for monitoring, assessment and data-sharing offers unprecedented opportunities in transboundary basins. In this context, "new technologies and innovations" can be understood broadly to include advanced conventional monitoring methods; analytical enablers such as artificial intelligence and machine learning; integrative tools, such as digital twins; and innovative approaches, such as citizen science, that enhance transparency and stakeholder engagement. While new technologies and innovations can improve the availability, quality and relevance of water data for evidence-based decision-making, their uptake in transboundary basins depends on enabling conditions, such as trust, political will and institutional coope...

Waterways in our Communities.

  Spanning the world, millions of people, thousands of events, both vittual and in-person will mark the World Rivers Day 2025  on September 28th, in what has become one of the largest environmental celebrations on the planet. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the event. With many of the World's rivers in a degraded state and facing increasing pressures associated with pollution , climate change and industrial development , more than 100 countries will participate in this year's activities. This year theme is  Waterways in our Communities . with an emphasis of protecting rivers that remains in an health state, while also striving to restore those that have been damaged in the past. Many event will also profile several sub-theme, such as the significant impact that climate change is having on many rivers, or the all-important link between the State of our rivers and the state of our oceans.   Events this year will be virtual and in-person. Many physical events will focus on educational and public awareness activities, while others will include cleanups, habitat restoration projects, streamside plantings, and community riverside events. Activitives of a digital nature may include photo contests, school projects, the launching of new campaigns, online essays and poems, the announcement of a new research projects, live-stream panels and virtual films initiatives. This year mark the 20th annual World Rivers Day , which has its roots in the big sussess of BC Rivers Day , which is celebrating its 45th anniversary in Canada's westernmost province and which Angelo founded in conjonction with the Outdoor recreation council .
